June 2, 2010 More than half of North American travel buyers and 45 percent of European buyers expect volumes to grow during the "remainder of 2010," according to an Egencia poll of more than 400 travel buyers taken during April and May. About one-third told Egencia they were "evaluating supplier contracts more frequently due to the economic climate," the company stated. May 11, 2010 Several travel management companies, travel distributors and airlines announced they have "agreed to support common technology approaches for the merchandising of airline ancillary services." Those listed on a joint press release included corporate TMCs American Express Business Travel, BCD Travel, Carlson Wagonlit Travel, Egencia, HRG, Orbitz for Business and Travelocity Business, and global distribution system operators Amadeus, Sabre Travel Network and Travelport. They each expressed support for both the Airline Tariff Publishing Company's optional services fare filing capabilities and the industry standard Electronic Miscellaneous Document. According to the joint statement, "the GDSs plan to provide corporations and travel agencies the ability to shop, book and fulfill airline ancillary services to travelers by late 2010." Air New Zealand, British Airways, Delta Air Lines, Lan and WestJet also were listed in the announcement as supporting these developments as "an option" for distributing products and services. American Airlines previously told The Beat that for its unbundling plans and direct connect initiative, it plans to implement EMDs but does not need ATPCo specifications. An AirTran Airways executive recently said that implementing EMDs is "something we don't want to do" because for the carrier's business model, some standards "don't make sense." April 27, 2010 American Express Business Travel picked WorldMate "to help power the platform of their new, expanded mobile offering," according to WorldMate. The collaboration "now" offers Amex clients flight alerts, suggested flight alternatives, in-app hotel and flight bookings, itinerary sharing and calendar synchronization, WorldMate wrote on its blog. August 24, 2009 Egencia unveiled a set of new services covering traveler empowerment, policy controls and business intelligence. They include a service enabling travelers and arrangers to share trip details, multi-passenger booking, redesigned hotel shopping functions, enhanced mobile functions for travelers and dynamic messaging sent to travelers during the booking process. Egencia said additional services to be made available by the end of this year include a trip approval process for mobile devices and a "custom report builder." June 17, 2009 Expedia Inc.'s Egencia announced a "fully-integrated global solution for meetings policy and reporting." Acquired by Egencia last year, Toronto-based meetings and incentives agency Reward Worldwide will rebrand to Egencia Meetings & Incentives, offering management, technology, procurement and reporting services. Egencia pointed to higher online adoption and transaction savings made possible by combining onto a single platform corporate transient and meetings bookings. April 30, 2009 Egencia reported first quarter revenue of $25 million, down 9 percent versus a year earlier on 18 percent lower gross bookings volume of $321 million. Parent Expedia Inc. detailed the Egencia figures for the first time. Quarterly gross bookings volume peaked at $431 million in the second quarter of 2008, but by the fourth quarter hit a two-year low of $315 million. February 17, 2009 Egencia named Databasics, ExpenseWatch.com, ExpenseWire, IBM and SutiSoft as expense system providers with which it would integrate data for "linkages" that would "help organizations more actively manage and process expenses, identify leakage and detect and prevent fraud." Egencia cooperates with two expense vendors in Europe. "Specific features will vary depending on the partner," Egencia said. July 10, 2007 Rearden Commerce now provides flight updates to travelers using its online booking tool. A "personal assistant" feature within the system "automatically updates the user's calendar, sends invitations, and provides proactive notifications and reminders via email, text message, phone or fax" regarding flight delays, cancellations and gate changes. May 18, 2007 HRG enhanced its HRG Trip online itinerary service to display frequent flyer numbers, ticket numbers and other information for hotel bookings "including those booked outside the global distribution system." The system also now includes rail bookings with French service provider SNCF, integration with calendars that support i Calendar standards (including Lotus Notes and Microsoft Outlook) and additional language capabilities.
