Related Newslog Items August 9, 2010 Concur and Marriott International announced a partnership to offer Concur clients downloadable e-folio data from participating Marriott hotels. August 3, 2010 Concur added direct Amtrak bookings to its travel reservations solutions. "Concur clients may now view, hold, reserve and purchase Amtrak rail travel--and compare rail and air travel options--all on one screen," the companies announced. Other functions include route maps, loyalty program number exchange, special rate support, multi-segment trips and automated payment and ticketing. July 27, 2010 Continental Airlines and United Airlines announced the leadership team for the combined carrier under CEO Jeff Smisek following a proposed merger. Current Continental chief marketing officer Jim Compton would retain that title for the merged airline while current United head of sales Jeff Foland would lead the combined loyalty program. The airlines did not detail plans for senior sales leaders. United also announced that president John Tague, CFO Kathryn Mikells and Mileage Plus president Graham Atkinson would leave the company after the merger closes. July 19, 2010 American Airlines and JetBlue Airways agreed to link loyalty programs "later this year." The carriers in March announced plans for interlining cooperation on various routes from Boston and New York, set to take effect tomorrow. May 4, 2010 Marriott International no longer will participate in American Airlines' loyalty program. According to AA's Web site, "The last day to earn miles on a qualified [Marriott] stay will be June 30, 2010." An AA spokesman said the move was "a Marriott decision." A Marriott spokeswoman confirmed the two companies could not agree to terms and offered no further information. March 19, 2010 Marriott International loyalty program members can use their points to "cover all of the balance or a portion of their bill," including "anything that appears on their folio." The option is available for stays at hotels in Canada and the United States.
February 12, 2010 American Airlines said "only premium customers" will be eligible for the no-charge standby list on the day of travel, effective for tickets purchased from Feb. 22 for flights within the United States, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands and Canada. Those customers include elite-level loyalty program members, those booked in premium cabins and those who purchased unrestricted economy class fares. All other customers interested in switching flights on the day of travel can purchase a confirmed change for $50, based on availability. AA said its changes "are similar" to competitors' policies. January 27, 2010 Marriott International opened TelePresence virtual meeting studios in Bethesda, Md. and at the New York Marriott East Side Hotel, the hotel company announced. During the first phase, Marriott plans to open similar studios powered by AT&T and Cisco in 25 more hotels globally, including locations in Atlanta, Dallas/Fort Worth, Hong Kong, Miami and Sao Paulo.
January 19, 2010 American Airlines and US Airways raised domestic checked baggage fees to $25 for the first item and $35 for the second, effective Feb. 1, matching Delta, Continental and United. All airlines provide exemptions for premium customers, full-fare passengers and top-tier loyalty program members, and some offer discounts for pre-paying online. December 16, 2009 Continental Airlines announced plans to offer inflight Internet access starting in mid-2010. The carrier will equip its Boeing 757-300 aircraft "primarily" operating in the domestic U.S. market. Before the announcement, Continental had been the largest U.S. carrier with no publicly divulged plans for inflight Internet connectivity.
